Chapter 9: The Brother’s Final Warning

The lights flickered back on.

Anthony stood in the doorway.

Calm.

Perfectly dressed.

Almost amused.

Ricardo stared at him.

“You followed me.””

Anthony smiled slightly.

“Of course.””

Dante raised his weapon.

Ricardo lifted a hand.

“Not yet.””

Anthony looked around the room.

At the photographs.

At the evidence.

Then he sighed.

“I was hoping you’d never find this place.””

Ricardo stepped forward.

“Where is Isabella?””

Anthony didn’t answer.

“Do you know what your problem has always been?””

Ricardo’s eyes narrowed.

“You talk too much.””

Anthony smiled.

“You think power means controlling everything.””

“You betrayed me.””

Anthony’s expression changed.

“I protected you.””

Ricardo laughed once.

A cold, empty sound.

“By letting me bury my wife?””

Anthony looked away.

“You don’t understand what happened.””

“Then explain.””

Anthony walked slowly into the room.

“Isabella discovered the truth about Leo.””

Ricardo froze.

“Keep talking.””

“She found out Leo wasn’t born into this family.””

Clara looked confused.

“What does that mean?””

Anthony glanced at her.

“You should ask your father.””

Clara’s face changed.

“My father is dead.””

Anthony smiled.

“That’s what you were told.””

Ricardo stepped closer.

“You knew Mateo was alive.””

“Yes.””

“And you knew Isabella was alive.””

Anthony didn’t deny it.

The silence was enough.

Ricardo’s anger exploded.

“You let me suffer for two years.””

Anthony looked at him.

“I watched you become someone worse.””

Ricardo grabbed his jacket.

“You don’t get to judge me.””

“No?””

Anthony’s voice became sharper.

“Isabella feared what you would become if you knew.””

Ricardo stopped.

Anthony continued.

“She loved you. That was the tragedy.””

Dante looked between them.

“What happened the night of the accident?””

Anthony’s face became serious.

“Someone tried to kill Ricardo.””

Ricardo frowned.

“What?””

“The accident wasn’t random.””

Anthony looked at the photos.

“Isabella was never the target.””

A cold silence followed.

“She was in the car because she switched places with you.””

Ricardo felt his chest tighten.

He remembered that night.

He was supposed to drive.

But Isabella had insisted she needed to stop somewhere first.

She had taken the keys.

He had thought it was nothing.

Now he wondered.

Had she known?

“Why didn’t she tell me?””

Anthony’s expression softened.

“Because she found out who was behind it.””

“Who?””

Anthony looked directly at him.

“Someone you would never suspect.””

Ricardo’s patience disappeared.

“Who?””

Anthony didn’t answer.

Instead, he looked at Clara.

“She has the missing piece.””

Everyone turned toward her.

Clara stepped back.

“Me?””

Anthony nodded.

“Your grandmother didn’t just take care of Isabella.””

Ricardo looked confused.

“What are you saying?””

Anthony stared at Clara.

“She took care of Isabella’s daughter.””

The room went silent.

Clara’s face went pale.

“No.””

Anthony continued.

“Isabella had another child before Leo.””

Ricardo looked at him.

“That’s impossible.””

“Is it?””

Anthony pointed toward Clara.

“The necklace.””

Ricardo stared.

The necklace.

The one that belonged to Isabella.

The one passed down through Clara’s family.

Dante suddenly understood.

“Oh my God.””

Ricardo looked at him.

“What?””

Dante whispered:

“Boss…”

He looked at Clara.

“She isn’t wearing Isabella’s necklace.””

A pause.

“She’s wearing her mother’s necklace.””

Clara shook her head.

“No.””

Anthony stepped closer.

“Your grandmother protected you because Isabella asked her to.””

Ricardo looked at Clara.

The waitress who calmed his son.

The woman connected to his dead wife.

The stranger who somehow felt familiar.

Then his phone rang.

Unknown number.

Ricardo answered.

A woman’s voice spoke.

A voice he had dreamed of hearing for two years.

“Ricardo.””

He stopped breathing.

Because he knew.

He knew that voice.

“Isabella?””

A long silence.

Then:

“I’m sorry I left you.””

Ricardo’s hand began to shake.

The woman whispered:

“But I had to protect our children.””

The call ended.

And Ricardo realized the truth was far more devastating than betrayal.

Isabella hadn’t died.

May you like

She had disappeared.

And she had taken a secret with her.
