Chapter 11: The Man Behind the Disappearance

Anthony Valenti had always been the charming brother.

The one who remembered birthdays.

The one who told jokes at family dinners.

The one who made everyone believe he was harmless.

Ricardo realized too late that harmless people were often the hardest to see coming.

But now Anthony was gone.

And someone else was moving.

Dante searched every contact, every safe house, every connection Anthony had.

Nothing.

It was like he had vanished.

Then a package arrived at the mansion.

No return address.

No fingerprints.

Only one word written on the front.

RICARDO.

Dante opened it carefully.

Inside was a small recorder.

And a photograph.

Ricardo grabbed the picture.

His entire body went still.

It was Isabella.

Older.

Different.

But alive.

Standing beside a young girl.

Clara.

A child.

Dante whispered:

“She knew.””

Ricardo stared.

The photograph had been taken fifteen years ago.

Long before the accident.

Long before Leo.

Clara wasn’t a coincidence.

She was always part of Isabella’s story.

Ricardo pressed the recorder.

Static filled the room.

Then Isabella’s voice.

“Ricardo, if you are hearing this, something happened to me.””

His eyes closed.

Hearing her voice again was almost unbearable.

“I know you will be angry.””

A small pause.

“But please understand.””

The recording continued.

“I didn’t leave because I stopped loving you.””

Ricardo gripped the recorder tighter.

“I left because loving you made our children targets.””

The room became silent.

Children.

Plural.

Isabella knew.

She knew about Leo.

And Clara.

“Your family has secrets deeper than you know,” Isabella continued.

“Carlo knew about Clara.””

Ricardo froze.

His father.

“He knew Mateo was alive. He knew about our daughter.””

Dante looked shocked.

“Carlo?””

Ricardo shook his head.

“No.””

The recording continued.

“Carlo believed power was more important than family.””

A pause.

“He wanted to use Clara to control Mateo.””

Ricardo felt sick.

His father.

The man who taught him loyalty.

The man who built their empire.

Had hidden his own granddaughter.

Then Isabella said the words that changed everything.

“The person who caused the accident wasn’t trying to kill me.””

Ricardo leaned closer.

“They were trying to kill Leo.””

The recorder clicked.

The message ended.

Nobody moved.

Finally, Dante spoke.

“Boss.””

Ricardo looked at him.

“Your father was involved.””

Ricardo walked toward the window.

His entire life had been built around his father’s lessons.

Respect.

Strength.

Control.

Now those lessons felt poisoned.

A message appeared on Ricardo’s phone.

From Anthony.

One sentence.

*Meet me if you want to know who really betrayed Isabella.*

Attached was a location.

Ricardo immediately grabbed his coat.

Dante followed.

“Boss, it could be a trap.””

Ricardo stopped.

“Everything is a trap now.””

Before leaving, he looked upstairs.

Leo’s room.

Then at Clara.

She stood in the hallway.

“You’re going.””

Ricardo nodded.

“I need answers.””

She looked afraid.

“Be careful.””

He paused.

The concern in her voice sounded strangely familiar.

Like Isabella.

For a moment, Ricardo almost said something.

Something he couldn’t explain.

Then he left.

The meeting place was an abandoned warehouse near the harbor.

Anthony stood inside.

Waiting.

Ricardo entered slowly.

“You have five minutes.””

Anthony smiled sadly.

“Still giving orders.””

Ricardo stepped closer.

“Talk.””

Anthony looked exhausted.

“I didn’t betray you.””

Ricardo laughed coldly.

“You lied.””

“Yes.””

“Your lies destroyed my life.””

Anthony nodded.

“I know.””

“Then why?””

Anthony looked down.

“Because I was afraid of him.””

Ricardo’s expression changed.

“Him who?””

Anthony looked toward the darkness behind Ricardo.

And whispered:

“The man who raised us.””

Ricardo turned.

But nobody was there.

When he looked back, Anthony was holding a gun.

Not at Ricardo.

At himself.

“Anthony.””

His brother’s eyes filled with regret.

May you like

“I’m sorry.””

A gunshot echoed through the warehouse.
