Chapter 19: The Final Betrayal
Nobody moved.
The footsteps above them became louder.
Jessica was in the house.
But the question was no longer whether she had secrets.
The question was how many.
David held the document with her signature.
His hands were shaking.
Jasmine looked at him.
“Dad…”
He looked at Michael.
“Take the files.””
Michael nodded.
For once, there was no argument between them.
No competition.
No anger.
Only the understanding that they were standing against something bigger than all of them.
David slowly opened the hidden door.
Jessica was waiting at the top of the stairs.
Her expression changed when she saw everyone coming out.
She already knew.
She saw the papers in David’s hand.
“You found it.””
David stared at her.
“You knew about the archive.””
Jessica didn’t deny it.
“Yes.””
Jasmine felt her heart sink.
“Why?””
Jessica looked at her.
“I was trying to protect you.””
Jasmine shook her head.
“Everyone keeps saying that.””
Her voice cracked.
“But everyone keeps hurting me.””
Jessica looked down.
“I know.””
David stepped forward.
“Explain the document.””
Jessica looked at the paper.
The transfer agreement.
The one signed recently.
“I didn’t create that.””
David’s expression hardened.
“Your signature is on it.””
“Yes.””
“Then what am I supposed to believe?””
Jessica closed her eyes.
“That I was forced.””
Michael laughed bitterly.
“Again?””
Jessica looked at him.
“You don’t know what happened.””
“No. I know exactly what happened. Everyone used fear as an excuse.””
The words were harsh.
But nobody could deny them.
Jessica walked to the table.
“I made a deal.””
David’s face changed.
“With who?””
Jessica didn’t answer.
Jasmine stepped closer.
“With Richard?””
Jessica shook her head.
“No.””
“Michael?””
“No.””
The silence grew heavier.
Then Jessica whispered:
“With Eleanor’s killer.””
Everyone froze.
David’s voice became low.
“What did you say?””
Jessica looked at him.
“I knew who was behind everything.””
“Since when?””
“Since the night Eleanor died.””
David stepped back.
The pain on his face was worse than anger.
“You knew?””
Jessica nodded.
“I saw what happened.””
Jasmine covered her mouth.
“You were there?””
“Yes.””
“Then why did you let us believe it was an accident?””
Jessica looked at her.
“Because I was scared.””
David’s eyes filled with disappointment.
“You always say that.””
“I know.””
Jessica sat down.
“I was young. I had Ethan. I had nothing. The person behind everything threatened to destroy my son if I spoke.””
Ethan looked at his mother.
“Who?””
Jessica looked at him.
“I never told you because I wanted you away from it.””
David stepped closer.
“Who threatened you?””
Jessica looked at him.
Then slowly said:
“Your father’s old business partner.””
David frowned.
“My father didn’t have one.””
Jessica shook her head.
“He did.””
She opened another file.
A name appeared.
A name David had never seen.
*Victor Hale.*
Michael’s expression changed.
“You know him?””
Michael nodded slowly.
“He was connected to my father.””
David looked at him.
“Why didn’t you tell me?””
“Because I thought he disappeared.””
Jessica laughed sadly.
“He didn’t disappear.””
She looked toward the window.
“He waited.””
The room became silent.
Then Jessica revealed the truth.
Victor had created the entire plan.
He manipulated Michael with promises of power.
He used Richard to move money.
He used Anderson to hide documents.
And he used Jessica’s fear to keep everyone silent.
But there was one thing he didn’t expect.
Eleanor.
“She found everything,” Jessica said.
David’s voice was quiet.
“And she confronted him.””
Jessica nodded.
“She was going to expose him.””
Jasmine looked at her.
“Then what happened?””
Jessica’s eyes filled with tears.
“Victor followed her.””
A painful silence.
“He caused the accident.””
David closed his eyes.
The truth he had spent years searching for finally arrived.
But it brought no peace.
Only pain.
Then Jasmine noticed something.
“If Victor controlled everyone…”
She looked at Jessica.
“Why did you sign the document last month?””
Jessica looked at her.
“Because Victor came back.””
Everyone froze.
Michael whispered:
“He’s alive?””
Jessica nodded.
“He wanted the property.””
David looked toward the door.
“Where is he?””
Jessica reached into her pocket.
She pulled out a phone.
“He contacted me yesterday.””
David took it.
There was one message.
*“Bring Jasmine to the estate. Alone.””*
David’s face changed.
“No.””
Jasmine looked at him.
“Dad.””
“You’re not going anywhere.””
But Jasmine looked at the message.
Then at the hidden archive.
She understood.
Victor didn’t just want the property.
He wanted the one person Eleanor believed could expose him.
Her.
Suddenly, another message appeared.

Everyone watched the screen.
*“You have one hour. Or the truth disappears forever.””*
