Chapter 15: The Guest Who Never Left
The house suddenly felt unsafe.
Not because of what was inside.
Because of who might be outside.
Every guest at the wedding became a possibility.
Every familiar face became a question.
My father immediately signaled security.
“Lock the property.””
The guards moved.
Rebecca sat down slowly.
She looked exhausted.
Like she had carried a secret too heavy for too long.
“Tell me everything.””
My voice was calm.
But inside, I was breaking.
Rebecca looked at me.
“I should have told you years ago.””
“Yes.””
The answer came quickly.
She nodded.
“I know.””
My father stood across from her.
“You let my daughter live a lie.””
Rebecca looked at him.
“You did too.””
The words hit him.
Because they were true.
Everyone in my life had protected me by hiding things from me.
And somehow, that had hurt more than the truth.
“Who was involved?”” I asked.
Rebecca looked at the old recording.
“Your mother found out that Daniel’s father was laundering money through companies connected to the Whitmores.””
My eyes narrowed.
“So the Whitmores were involved before Daniel?””
“Yes.””
“Then Daniel?””
Rebecca looked at me.
“Daniel was chosen because he was easier to control.””
A cold feeling moved through me.
“They planned my marriage?””
“Yes.””
My father looked furious.
“They used my daughter.””
Rebecca nodded.
“But your mother found out.””
I looked at the recording.
“And she tried to expose them.””
“Yes.””
“What happened that night?””
Rebecca looked down.
“I arrived after your mother called me.””
My breath caught.
“You were there.””
“Yes.””
“What did you see?””
Her hands tightened.
“I saw Daniel’s father arguing with your mother.””
My father froze.
“Daniel’s father?””
“Yes.””
“But he was dead.””
“He died six months later.””
Silence.
I felt sick.
“So he was alive when my mother died.””
Rebecca nodded.
“And he wasn’t alone.””
The room went quiet.
“Who was with him?””
Rebecca looked at me.
“Eleanor.””
My father cursed under his breath.
“No.””
Rebecca nodded.
“She was there.””
The pieces finally connected.
The ring.
The money.
The marriage.
Everything.
But then something didn’t fit.
“If Eleanor was involved…”
I looked at Rebecca.
“Why is she still afraid?””
Rebecca sighed.
“Because she wasn’t the person in control.””
Everyone stopped.
“What do you mean?””
Rebecca looked toward the window.
“She thought she was working with Daniel’s father.””
A pause.
“But someone was using him too.””
My father stepped closer.
“Who?””
Rebecca whispered:
“The person who arranged everything.””
My phone buzzed.
Everyone looked.
Another message.
This time, there was an attachment.
A photograph.
I opened it.
And my blood froze.
It was a picture from tonight’s wedding reception.
Two hundred guests.
The champagne tower.
The torn dress.
But the photo was taken from above.
From a hidden camera.
Someone had been watching everything.
I zoomed in.
A figure stood in the corner.
Watching.
Waiting.
I recognized the face.
My heart stopped.
Because it was someone who had spent the entire night pretending to help me.
Someone who had walked into the ballroom with my father.
Someone who knew every secret before I did.
The message underneath said:
*You finally found the truth about the past.*
A second message appeared.
*Now find out why your father chose to protect me.*
I looked at my father.
He saw the photo.
And his face changed.
“Vivienne…”
I whispered:
“Who is that?””
My father didn’t answer.
Because he knew.
And this time, the truth was worse.
The person watching us wasn’t a stranger.
May you like
It was the one person my father had sworn would never hurt me.
Would you like Chapter 16 to reveal the watcher’s identity immediately, or keep it hidden for one more chapter?
