Chapter 2: The Woman Who Knew Everything

The first kiss appeared on the screen for only a few seconds.

But those few seconds felt longer than five years.

The room that had been full of laughter became completely silent.

I watched my husband lean toward my best friend.

I watched Sophia place her hand on his arm.

I watched two people I trusted more than anyone else forget that the world existed outside that car.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The video continued playing.

Daniel finally stepped forward.

“Emily…”

His voice sounded different.

Not confident.

Not charming.

Afraid.

I slowly turned around.

Everyone was looking at him.

His parents.

My parents.

Our friends.

And Sophia.

The same woman who had just toasted our marriage minutes earlier.

“Emily, please,” Daniel said.

“Let me explain.””

I stared at him.

“Explain what?””

He opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

Sophia wiped her face quickly.

“This isn’t what it looks like.””

A few people gasped.

I almost laughed.

Because somehow, after everything, that was the first thing she said.

Not an apology.

Not the truth.

A defense.

I looked at her.

“You knew everything.””

Sophia lowered her eyes.

“Emily…”

“No.””

My voice was calm.

That surprised everyone.

Especially me.

“You knew how Daniel proposed to me. You helped me choose my wedding dress. You stood next to me when I promised forever.””

Sophia’s eyes filled with tears.

“I never wanted to hurt you.””

I looked at Daniel.

Then back at her.

“But you did.””

Daniel moved closer.

“Emily, it was a mistake.””

The word hit harder than I expected.

A mistake.

Five years of marriage.

Thousands of memories.

Countless nights I trusted him completely.

And he called it a mistake.

“Was it a mistake when you hid your phone?”” I asked.

Daniel froze.

“Was it a mistake when you started coming home late?””

His face changed.

Just slightly.

Enough.

I had seen that expression before.

The expression of someone who realized they had been caught.

The room became uncomfortable.

People looked away.

Sophia whispered, “How long have you known?””

I looked at her.

“I didn’t.””

That answer shocked her.

“I trusted you.””

The words came out quietly.

And somehow, that hurt more than screaming.

Daniel reached for my hand.

I stepped back.

“Don’t.””

His expression broke.

“Emily, please listen to me.””

“No.””

I looked at the giant screen behind him.

The screen that was supposed to show our wedding photos.

Our memories.

Our happy moments.

Instead, it had shown everyone the truth.

“I spent years defending you.””

Daniel swallowed.

“I love you.””

I stared at him.

“Then why did you need her?””

He had no answer.

Sophia suddenly spoke.

“Emily, there’s something you don’t know.””

I turned toward her.

The confidence she once had was gone.

“What?””

She looked nervous.

Almost scared.

And for the first time that day, I realized something.

Sophia wasn’t just afraid because she had been exposed.

She was afraid because there was something worse.

Daniel looked at her.

“Sophia, don’t.””

The entire room became tense.

I noticed the way he said her name.

Not with anger.

With fear.

“What are you hiding?”” I asked.

Sophia looked at me.

Then at Daniel.

Finally, she reached into her purse and pulled out a small envelope.

“I was going to tell you after the party.””

My heart started beating faster.

“Tell me what?””

Sophia slowly placed the envelope on the table.

“This isn’t just about the affair.””

Nobody moved.

Daniel’s face turned pale.

I looked down at the envelope.

May you like

And before I opened it, Sophia whispered:

“Emily… your husband has been lying to you about something much bigger.””
